im using the harvard system for a bibliography eg.. Shelly, M (1818) Frankenstein.London:Penguin
im just confused on the date in brackets. in the book it says first published 1818 and underneath it it says published by penguin 1994. which date do i put ?
Also how do i reference a website in a piece of text and add it to bibliography. ive looked at websites explaining how to do this but i just cant quite understand them

Since you’re using a particular company’s version of the book, you use the most recent date it was published, which seems to be 1994 by Penguin. To reference a website, you use parenthesis to enclose the author of the website (not the article) and the date it was published (usually at the bottom of the page). For example, if I was citing this website(http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-12434007), I would write something like…
…since photons create both spin angular and orbital angular momentum, astronomers should be able to look for a twist in the space-time fabric, otherwise known as a black hole (BBC, 2011).
Note that I did not use the website’s exact words. If I had, I would have to use quotations around the part I used, but referencing would be the same. Also note that the punctuation goes OUTSIDE the parenthesis.
