i know what it means but i dont know how to use it or when to use it in an essay. could someone give me an example and explain it to me well, very detailed. thankyou please answer before friday 10/15.

You use it when you want to put evidence into a paper to support a conclusion or help you draw a conclusion from information. Citations should look something like this in a paper:
Short intro into quote, “exact quote” (author, page#). Draw conclusion.
Watch your punctuation, the period DOES NOT go in the quotations, even if it is the end of a sentence, the only time punctuation goes inside the quotes is if it is a comma “,” or exclamation point “!” otherwise you put it after your citation.
Don’t forget that you still have to have a full works cited at the end of the paper that includes the author, publication, etc. Purdue, Citation Machine or Easybib are great resources to help with these things.
